Public Library of Pomiechówek Commune

The Public Library of Pomiechówek Commune is an institution focused on meeting the reading needs of the population of this town. In addition to activities strictly related to its collection, it organizes meetings with authors, book discussion clubs, workshops and other activities which aim is to promote the act of reading and transform the library into a meeting place for everyone.  

The volunteer who stays there is invited to collaborate on tasks such as arranging books and the online promotion of the library. The volunteer is also encouraged to organize meetings and events for the local community, as well as to visit kindergartens and schools with the aim of promoting reading and intercultural education. This volunteer should be interested in literature, history and culture in order to take the maximum profit of the experience.

Location

Pomiechówek is a small town located 25 kilometres north-west of Warsaw. It has a population of around 4,000 people and it is surrounded by beautiful forests and parks.

Accommodation

The volunteer shares the apartment with the one that is working in the Cultural Centre of Pomiechówek and with the house owner, who lives on the first floor and has three dogs. The main entrance and the garden are shared with the owner, but the volunteers have their own rooms and a bathroom.

Food

The house has also a fully equipped kitchen, where the volunteers can cook their own meals after having bought their groceries. To do that they will receive a food allowance of 150 euros per month.

Transport

Workplace is located within walking distance of the house and from the center of the village. No public transport is required. To go to Warsaw, volunteers must take a train, but the cost of the travel is not covered by the European Solidarity Corps.
